What is Gemstones?
Gemstone is a precious or semiprecious stone, especially one cut, polished, and used in a piece of jewelry. However, certain rocks and occasionally organic materials that are not minerals are also used for jewelry and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well.
Most are minerals and are cut from naturally occurring crystals. To qualify as a gem, the specimen should be hard and tough to resist scratching and have beautiful clarity, color or 'fire'. Value is based on rarity and rare quality.
